During my time supporting successful entrepreneurs, there are certain traits that seem to surface. They all have a great intuition when it comes to business but they also look for and depend on the feedback provided by coaches. There are some that feel that they don’t need any help in running their business, and that’s okay, but they may not be reaching the levels of success they could be.

A coach that is knowledgeable and experienced will be able to put a spotlight on any obstacles or challenges that may be coming your way and help you realize your potential. The only drawback to all of this is that in order for any of it to work as intended, you need to be coachable. How do you know if you’re coachable? Here are three attributes that coachable entrepreneurs possess.
- Long Term Over Short Term: Entrepreneurs that are coachable aren’t looking at how to improve each day or each week. They’re looking to put effort and time into long-term strategies that will have long-term growth for their business. The ability to be coached can provide great insights into your business and it’s not uncommon to see a sudden increase in revenues, but like any successful entrepreneur knows it’s not an overnight occurrence.
- Control Their Own Destiny: One of the most impactful actions any entrepreneur can take is being coached. Coaches can be great to help you take action and steer you clear of any potential dangers that can lessen your business’ success. Entrepreneurs that are open to being coached are usually self-aware of what they need help with and confident enough to know that they can achieve what they want. By having a coach, with the knowledge they need, entrepreneurs can expect to see some great results. If you are the type of person that feels the need to blame outside factors or justify why things may have gone wrong, then partnering with a coach may not be for you. People that are coachable believe that they are in control of their lives, careers, and destiny.
- Can Handle the Truth: For everyone, not just entrepreneurs, having a coach can be motivating and agonizing. Facing the truth can hurt but it’s a necessary evil. For those looking for someone to support them and prop them up when things go bad, a coach is not that someone. They’ll be there for you to help make those big decisions and be objective when the situation calls for it. Most entrepreneurs use coaches for those tough decisions. A coach will help you put your decisions into perspective, both good and bad, but they often come with truth and to be coachable, you will need to handle this professionally.
Before jumping in and acquiring a coach, be sure that you’re in a good mindset, willing to put the effort into it, and be open to being coached. Having a coach who has been down the path you’re about to journey down is a great asset and by combining it with discipline and a strong work ethic, you will produce some tremendous results.
